Update

I haven't been posting here largely because I haven't had much to say but I just realized that I left y'all hanging after the previous message and I probably owe you a status update! *grin*

Status update is as follows:

The take-over or whatchamacalit is going as smoothly as can be expected. The VP of our new division came down and talked with us. Apparantly, although this company does make valves, it doesn't make valves in our particular market. It seems to be doing the big oil rig valves and the big steam heating valves and the tiny aerospace hydraulic valves, but not our kind of valves which are in between. So they're not interested in downsizing us--far from it, they want to use us as a doorway into our section of the valve market!

Of course the whole matter came with gads of paperwork switching insurance and all over and with the concurrent headaches as we tried to figure out said forms. I've never had to set up a 401K before--although Hydroseal did offer one, I was more interested in paying off my debts first. But since I'm almost in the clear I felt this was a good time to start gradually paying in and once I'm totally clear of my debts I'll ramp it up further.

In doing the financial calcs and whatnot to figure out how much I could pay in I found out that I'm currently saving about 1/3 of my net paycheck per month--not bad! Much better than I thought I was doing. Now I'm starting the plans to find an apartment closer to where I work. I'm thinking August would be about the right time--I'll have my debts paid off and my bank account will have the right amount of cushion that I want for the move.

Any advice about apartment hunting and how far in advance I should close, etc, would be appreciated, of course, although I already kinda have a schedule set up in my mind.

Oh, and I did put my resume up on Monster after my kind and long-suffering BF talked me through how to do it--along with listening to me bitch about how much I hated doing resumes and alla that. He really does have a lot of patience with me sometimes.

And looking over my finances I found out that by doing some careful budgeting and forgoing some new books and music and other treats for the next little while I'll be able to make both the Vegas *AND* Chicago Socials, along with my already-planned trip to the DC area. I'd been agonizing over having to choose between Vegas and Chicago, so I'm thrilled to be able to do both! (Well, that is if [livejournal.com profile] publius1 is *having* a Chicago New Year's Social this year--you are, aren't you? *nudge*).

So overall, pretty good news. I feel much better than I did a month ago--now that I can see some of my goals coming into focus.
