I had a dream last night...
May. 12th, 2004 10:09 amIt sort of went this way:
There was this affair in an auditorium, I think. Someplace with a stage, anyway. It wasn't a play. It might have been an auction, but why you would have an auction in an auditorium I don't know. Anyway, there were objects about: small tables, baskets, pillows, radios, etc. And somehow I was involved with the objects. I was responsible for them.
So whatever it was was going on, and I noticed that on one side of where the audience was sitting, there were ropes coming down from the ceiling. And then I saw this girl. I think she was a teenager; anyway, she was younger than me. And she decided that she wanted to take some of the objects that were lying around and tie them to the ropes and start them swinging, pendulum style. For example, she tied a basket to a rope by its handle. She started in the middle of the ropes and worked outward.
So, like, she'd tie something on to a far end, give it a push to start it swinging, then run the gauntlet of swinging ropes to the other end, lather rinse repeat. Well, of course this is dangerous, and I told her many, many times not to do it, to stop it, to go sit down. For some reason, I couldn't get to her to physically stop her, so all I could do was keep shouting from the stage for her to leave the stuff alone. I kept telling her over and over that she was going to hurt herself but she didn't listen. And her parents who were in the audience didn't seem interested in stopping her, either.
So anyway, like you'd expect, eventually, she got hit by one of the swinging objects. She got very badly hurt, maybe even killed, I don't remember. Then her mom stood up in the audience and started yelling at me, telling me that it was all my fault that her daughter had been hurt/killed, that I should have stopped her, and that I deserved to be punished for not stopping her.
And the mom walked over to the ropes, which had stopped swinging, and she took an item off the end of one of them and she tied it into a noose. And some other audience members got up and escorted me over to where she was so she could hang me for hurting her daughter. And the mom never stopped yelling at me throughout. And the rest of the audience just sat there.
I specifically remember not being afraid. I also remember that when I confronted the mom, I just simply looked at her with a modicum of disgust and said, basically: "Look, I tried to stop your daughter. I told her over and over that she was going to hurt herself and that she should stop what she was doing. You all heard me. You all saw her ignore me. You know I couldn't stop her physically. You could have but you didn't. So go ahead and hang me if it makes you feel better, but it's not my fault."
I could see that she and the audience couldn't possibly care less. Anyway, I woke up as she was putting the noose around my neck.
