Progress

1) Yesterday dropped off resume at Kilgore College and got to talk with one of the chem profs there. He said they might have a lecture course MWF at 11 am next semester for general chemistry that they might be able to give to me. They don't know yet if it's going to happen or not--depends on how many students sign up. The idea of basically being handed a textbook and being expected to develop lectures (and quizzes and tests and keys) from it, even with help is daunting. Even more so, actually getting up and lecturing--I *hate* being the center of attention unless I'm in a relaxed group of friends. Still, progress of a sort, and at least they know I exist.

2) Today an interview set up through a temp agency for a firm even closer, if possible to where I live than Hydroseal was. The firm makes herbicides--the kind that kill *everything*, down to the bare ground. For use by utilities, railroads, that kind of thing. Sorta the same sort of stuff I was doing for Hydroseal--taking orders, dispatching orders, doing inventory, doing reports. Still, the place couldn't possibly be closer and they're offering $10-12/hr to start and a temp-to-perm position with benefits and all.

3) Today also an interview with a company I'd dropped off a resume to this morning. Place does analysis on samples sent them all over the country. They would start me on their most difficult and busy work, as that seems to be their filter for the rest of the analysis section--the logic being, if you can survive that, you can deal with anything else they give you. Lots of chemistry, all over the place, but the guy I interviewed with gave me a creepy feeling. Dunno why. Also, they warned me that holidays were generally worked and that vacations had to be scheduled carefully--the samples have to be done within a certain time frame from when they come in, so if some asshole sends in a sample on Christmas Eve, you work Christmas Eve. Very definitely a temp-to-perm position, if I survive the filter. No commitment on salary, when I asked.

4) Today also word from a second temp agency about a tech firm that needed a Technical Writer recently but had to do it in-house since they couldn't find anyone to suit. The temp lady said she would pass my resume by them in case they were still interested. Unfortunately, the guy on the firm side who was hiring is going to be on vacation the next two weeks. Still a potential lead.
