on my skin

lurid orange flames
redden my face
touch the sky
like minature suns

charred black logs
once mighty timbers
now eaten by fire
like so much meat

fine white ash
dances around me
swirls on high
like strange snowflakes

heat and ash
soot and smoke
the smell of burning
in my clothes and hair
