Friday night I met my parents at a restaurant in Longview that none of us had been at before and treated them to what turned out to be some very, very good Italian. Going home to HS, I go to turn into our driveway, and my headlights hit upon two deer in the front yard. The oak tree there is losing its acorns and the deer love it. Unfortuantely, we spooked them.
The next morning, they came back. Well, we think it's the same two, because a doe has been bringing her fawn to the feeder ever since the spring. It's been amazing to see this animal literally grow up in front of our eyes. By now, he's almost as big as his mom and his coat is the exact same as hers--winter grey. They came to the feeder in the morning.
Then this morning, my dad took me out for a look around the place, and as we came down the hill towards the pond, there they were--two deer on the far side of the pond. Of course, seeing us, they spooked, and went off into the trees there on the far side. Then, as my dad took me around to the far side and showed me a "road" through the trees there that he had found, there they were again, standing on the "road"! *grin*
I think those deer were heartily tired of us by that time.
Coming back to my apartment, I saw a covered wagon, of the kind that usually seats tourists, being drawn by two horses, coming out of New Diana. That's a new one for me, especially since they were driving on Hwy259--which is a fairly major artery around here.
Had a great weekend, played games with my parents, and almost finished my cloak! It needs one final pressing and then I need to buy and sew on the fastenings. It was great fun working on it with my mom. I'm really looking forward to next weekend, when I go home again, because I'm planning on doing some baking.
