This is something I came up with lately. I eat ramen in an attempt to keep down my grocery bills but I was getting so tired of it that I wanted to come up with a tastier way of fixing it. My solution:
Boil the noodles without the seasoning, drain. Add 3-4 tablespoons sugar or other sweetening. Add 4-5 tablespoons fruit juice (I used cranapple juice, that being on hand, but I could see using cranberry, grape, crangrape, or cranraspberry juice, too. 100% juice, naturally). Add a dollop of sweet & spicy Szechuan stir fry sauce. Add several tablespoons of (lite sodium) soy sauce. You want enough of the above to flavor the noodles, but not really enough for there to be liquid in the bottom of the bowl. Stir and chill in freezer for 3-4 minutes, stirring once at the half-way point. Add some sesame seeds to it.
It was very good, with just enough of a spice "kick" to it. I think toasting the sesame seeds would be even better. Other things I'm thinking of adding to it include tofu, water chestnuts, snow peas, and those large-sized sprouts you find in Asian restaurants. Any crisp, fairly bland veggie would go good with this, I think. For the carnivores, I'm thinking you could get some sausage links, either spicy or sweet, preferrably pre-cooked, slice thin medallions from them and slice the medallions into thin strips. Ham, chicken, or turkey would also probably work, also sliced into thin strips. You wouldn't want more than a handful of meat strips, though, since that would spoil the delicate flavor.
