Well, the whole crush video argument has spun itself out, some saying that LJAbuse can't and shouldn't enforce it, because of Freedom of Speech, some saying that the video is a violation of their TOS and they better damn well enforce it, and some saying that this is just another piece of the same pattern, that LJAbuse does not and will not enforce TOS against anything, no matter how offensive, unless they, personally, find it offensive.
Personally, I've always been a person who wants fair play. And I think that the video violated the LJ TOS, and therefore should have been acted against. There is something fundamentally wrong with a system that punishes people for showing pictures of moms breastfeeding babies and yet won't lift a finger when someone posts a horrific video of a poor innocent animal being crushed to death. The little macabre voice that occasionally gets inside my head wonders if they'd punish an activity that combined both. Say, a video of a woman breastfeeding while her baby gets stomped on.
Whatever. All the explanation in the world cannot convince me that 1) the video was not wrong, 2) it should never have been made in the first place, 3) people who get their rocks off hurting innocents (be they human or animal) are just serial killers in training and deserve a special place in Hell, 4) having been made, the video should not have been posted, and the manner in which it was posted was obviously a deliberate troll of the worst kind, 5) said posting being, as I said, against LJ TOS, and 6) AS SUCH, should have been acted upon by LJAbuse.
Two things that have come out of this that I wish to bring to people's attention. abuse_lj. If people band together to annoy the LJAbuse team about these sort of things, one would hope eventually that they would listen. And if they start tossing people off for being whistleblowers, eventually they will lose money and subscribers.
At any rate, that's my last word on the matter.
On other matters, perhaps partially because of the above incident, but also because of work stresses, and the frustrations of trying to get this fucking new computer to work (it doesn't seem able to do half the things my old one did easily despite my being TOLD it would not only do them faster and better, but many more other cool things as well), I've been fighting with a more major bout of depression these past weeks. Mostly over now, and not much use to talk about it, because it always boils down to petty crap that no one wants to listen to because they think you're whining.
Well, I'm sorry if it *IS* petty crap but when you're depressed, it doesn't matter why, you just need an ear. Which, to his credit,hoya99 has been supplying. Still, I can only vent to him so much. It's a vicious circle, in that I can only vent to people I trust, said people being also invariably people I care for and don't want to worry, which in turn leads me to clam up because my problems are so damn petty and anyway, as an adult I should be dealing with them myself, not sobbing on someone's shoulder because life doesn't play fair.
*sigh* It would be nice if depression was logical, but then, I guess, it wouldn't be depression.
