One week from today the talking heads will stop talking about what might happen, what probably will happen, what certainly will happen, and what will happen if any of the above happens or not.

Then they will start talking about what has happened and what it means.

One week from today the masks will come off and we will be able to see what ghouls were hiding behind them.

One week from today we will know if the American political system has been hijacked or not.

One week from today we will know if America is still a democracy or not.

One week from today.

One week.

Because if your side wins the election, that's democracy, but if the other side wins the election, that's hijacking?

I see, tovarishch grazdhanin...

No, because if the tenor of the country is tending strongly in one direction and then the election results landslide in the exact opposite direction, beyond what is possible within statistical means, then someone (probably several someones) is interfering.

You can do better than that.

Except the tenor of the country isn't tending strongly in one direction. It's tending strongly in two directions which don't talk to each other much.

(That's what I get for slumming it through the opposition's pet news sources - exposure to the millions of people who disagree with me. Everyone should try it, sometime.)

So the multiple polls that show only about 30% of this country actively supporting the decisions made by the powers that be isn't evidnce of a trend? A majority of Americans saying that they are planning on voting said powers out of office isn't evidence of a trend? That even some Republican voters are considering crossing party lines in order to send a message about how fed up they are with the way Congress and the Administration are doign things isn't evidence of a trend? I must find me a dictionary then. You may quibble about my use of the word "strong" if you like, but there is definitely a trend. And, to my mind, definite evidence of tampering already going on.

Don't beleive me on that last? Go read [personal profile] flemco's journal. Some of the articles that he's linked to in the past few days give me the heebeejeebees as far as tampering goes.

*sigh* I really wish you wouldn't try to provoke me. I post political stuff to my LJ only when I have to vent somewhere. If I wanted to argue and debate it I would go talk to my neighbors. Can't you just let me vent in peace? It would be better for both our blood pressures.

If I wanted debate, I'd go talk to someone whose mind was discernably open.

In the meantime, you're venting in public. I might go so far as to suggest, provocation-wise, that everyone who would agree with me that this kind of bias-fed, conspiracy-promulgating, small-minded demonisation, whether this way or the other, on the part of people who we have always considered presumptively intelligent is doing infinitely more harm to the fabric of the Republic than either party could ever do. And therefore might just be a tad provocative.

Anyway: consider that handled.

I'm not about to let you dictate to me what I can and can't post in my journal, private or public. And btw, I never post private entries, and I've only ever posted a handful--and I do mean 5 or less--friends locked ones and that only because the matter was extremely personal.

I also don't remember ever going to your journal and telling you (in essence) that you were a crazy hysterical idiot when you've posted things that I've disagreed with. Instead, I've respected you and your right to post (and think) what you please. I've lived and let live. Which seems to indicate that I have a more open mind than you're willing to give me credit for, but whatever.

Is it too much to ask that you treat me with the same respect? Or does this relationship only go one way?
