Ten Haiku: Honeymoon

dawn in Sonoma
—in one week, how life changes—
dusk in Monterey
fog in the distance,
I see spires—there it is!
the Golden Gate Bridge
northward—hills, rocks, sun—
top down, wind in our faces
the slight smell of salt
cool misty morning
turns to bright, hot, sunny day,
tinted with green vines
the smell of growing
grapes—heavy, intense, pungent—
the promise of wine
throughout the valleys
the varying taste of wine;
dark, smooth, dry, sweet, clear
sunny and hot or
breezy chill—San Francisco—
and boy, all those hills!
Golden Gate Park—I
open a door into a
Japanese landscape
sushi, Asian art,
views of Alcatraz, chocolate,
dim sum, Chinatown
Carmel—sun, sand, surf—
the Pacific from this side—
and then Monterrey
