On the whole breast-baring Superbowl thing: I didn't see it live, but from what I've heard and read and seen since, I have concluded the following:

1) It was staged.
2) Both Jackson and Timberlake knew about it in advance.
3) Other people working on the show (i.e. costumers) knew about it in advance.
4) MTV as a whole likely knew about it in advance.
5) CBS most likely *didn't* know about it in advance.
6) By and large, it's the adults who are screaming about Protecting Our Young People From The Big Scary Breast. By and large, it's the kids who are going "It's a *breast*. So what?" This is amusing on several levels.
7) Can we all stop talking about it now? Suffice to say that within the first *day* I heard and saw and read enough about it to make me sick of the whole topic.

My cousin's wife is due to give birth to their first child and they're expecting a girl. My cousin has decided to give her the brilliant first and middle names "Annemarie South". Okay, I know I live in Texas, and he lives in Texas, but really, is it appropriate to name any child "South"?? Am I the only one who thinks this is just a *little* bit inappropriate? And what's with the recent naming trends today anyway? There are plenty of perfectly good names out there; you don't have to make up something. Usually the result is something that a) looks unpronouncable and b) will keep your kid in first grade for two years just to learn to spell it. Sheesh, already, people. It's like you're creating Designer Kids or something; trademarking them to prove they belong to you. Enough.

One final note: I got my first speeding ticket of my life yesterday. First ever. I'm still trying to decide how to react to that fact.

By pleading nolo, taking defensive driving and getting the bonus for defensive driving to your insurance, I should think. if they have comedy defensive driving, I recommend that; it's much better than sitting through a non-comedy class.

I was talking emotionally.

Well, yeah. I always rail at an unjust deity over mine.

Which reminds me, I have an amusing story (now that it's all behind me it's funny, anyway) to tell about my last ticket sometime. The moral of the story is, mail all legal documents certified mail, return receipt requested. This includes your ticket documentation.

Thank you.

For me, I suppose it's a bit of a shock. I've had such a good record. And I wasn't even intending to speed.

Well, when I got my first ticket, my emotional reaction was to be REALLY PISSED OFF, 'cause the cop was totally making stuff up, and I couldn't do anything about it bc I was from out-of-state. Fucking Ohio.

The second (and last) ticket I got prompted nothing but chagrin, 'cause I totally deserved it. $150, at a time when I did not have $150 to burn. I'm good about not speeding egregiously any more.

Well, I did deserve this one, so let's call it chagrin.

Maybe interesting snippet: The Turkish words for East, West, North and South are all rather valid, if not exactly common, names for children. Usually boys.

Only if your family name is Dakota.

Please don't ask how I know this (aside from my having been an single undergrad male once upon a time) but there's a fairly well-known porn star named Peter North. Your cousin and his wife may find this, um, illuminating.
