Since my "ooh clicky" probably isn't that helpful, I'll note that I'm really not an orange person, but the orange does at least contrast with the black well, the colors chosen make everything easy to read/see, etc... and of course it goes well with the userpic and the "tiger" name thang.
Plus I don't want to juse choose that I hate it, just because I personally don't like orange much. :p Or red, or yellow...
I see your journal in my style, which is the "Lynx" theme, for legibility reasons. There are people whose writing I really admire, but who has no design sense at all. (I'm probably one of them, since I use pink and purple, but I find those colours restful.)
Like Thette, I read others' journals (and my Friends page) in my style for legibility reasons and didn't even know you'd changed styles until you mentioned it.
I'm usually fairly blind to format changes on web sites. And worse, I know that my eyes register colors just differently enough from most people that some stuff I consider perfectly readable is apparently unviewable garbage to others.
(Seriously, I can read red test on black background just fine, dammit.)
Shiny; and suits you. But my colormap-challenged monitor (or rather, colormap-challenged window manager running on colormap-challenged operating system, not the huge beautiful monitor itself, I'm sure) displays colors differently than PC monitors do (which is why my pictures are often lighter than I want them to be in reality; everything shows up a bit dark here), so I can't really gauge how bright the orange is.
