There isn't that much detail in Turkish news sites at the moment, either.
It was a train new to service, though, and designed to be speedier than the usual. I don't know, nor does anyone seem to know at the moment, whether that was a factor.
To my knowledge I didn't have anyone in my family traveling on it, but friends... I don't know. I'd call hoome, but I guess no one would know either, at the moment. I think I'll wait a couple of hours.
Now I know a bit more: No one in the immediate circle of my family was traveling. Other than that, the folks in Turkey are still waiting for an official cause diagnosis as well.
CNN has one detail wrong in the article they now have: It wasn't the maiden voyage. That train and line had been in operation since June 6.
I'm wondering whether we should be concerned about Jasper. If I remember correctly, he was leaving Istanbul today, though I've no idea in what direction.
According to his last entry, he was talking about heading to Bulgaria on the 22:00 train, however I don't know if that involves the Istanbul/Ankara train or not, and he didn't seem absolutely sure that he'd be doing it.
Yep, I'm fine. Actually, I didn't get around to leaving Istanbul yet (I'm planning on doing that, really for real this time, tomorrow, same 22:00 train (cause it's the only one that leaves the country anyway)), and as you say, it's the other line (there isn't even a direct connection by rail, as far as I know, what with the dividing line between the continents in the way).
Still kind of a shock to read about that, though. Selfishly hoping that nobody closer than 6 degrees of separation to me was among the injured, and thinking good thoughts in the direction of the families of those injured or killed.

Thanks for the thoughts.
